“You looked so pretty last night, your skin was glowing! Keep up the great work on your clean diet!” I saw my success partner at our biannual Beachbody Super Saturday, and she sent me this text the next morning. Not only did that make me wake up with a smile on my face, but it also reminded me of how blessed I am with the sweetest, most supportive success partner a gal could ask for. Not to mention, the rewarding effects of my “Eat Clean, Get Lean Challenge” were actually showing and paying off.
I do a challenge every month to invite people to make healthy choices with me, and this month’s challenge is the “Eat Clean, Get Lean Challenge.” It’s a fun way to commit to a positive change, and af un way to challenge yourself and really see how great you can be. The basics of it, is to detox—eliminate consumption of all things your body considers toxic. That means, no processed foods, no gluten, no caffeine, no alcohol, and no sugars. It’s like resetting your body, and letting it function how it’s supposed to function. Then at the end of the month when you slowly reintroduce certain items that were eliminated, you can better and more accurately monitor how they truly affect your body. Not only is your hair shinier, skin softer, and nails stronger; but you’re enlightened with really getting to know your own body, and really getting to know what you’re actually putting into your body.
The common reaction I receive from others when I first tell them what my challenge group and I are doing is, “Oh, so basically you can’t eat anything.” NOT true! At all! I have found there is still such a cornucopia of foods I can eat and do eat, and I don’t feel deprived of anything.
Going to the grocery story is even more of a fun adventure these days. I pay careful attention to ingredients now, and what I’ve found is that there are a lot of things labeled “healthy” that really aren’t—full of starches and sugars; BUT there are a lot of things that are clean and are DELICIOUS at the same time. For example “Corn Thins.” Sounds simple. Sounds plain. They look like any other rice cracker, but they’re made of corn and they are SO good. Seriously, SO good! Between my Shakeology bites and these Corn Thins, I’ve got my sweet snacks and my salty snacks covered!
This weekend marks the half way mark of this month’s challenge, and I’m so proud of all those who are in my challenge group. It’s not always easy, especially when temptation or scoffing people are all around. But it gets easier. It does. Really, the hardest part is dealing with negativity from other people, because that’s what can really affect our accountability and motivation–but that’s why we surround ourselves with positive people whenever possible. So, that’s why my heart was so warmed when I received that text from my success partner. She knew my family was giving me a hard time, and she’s been ever supportive.
When you make a change in your life, it takes time for everyone to adjust to it. So now, my mom is coming around and being more supportive. She’s even given me my own shelf in the refrigerator!
