So, I realized today that I am the only non-native Spanish speaker in my Spanish class…apparently some people appreciate this, because as a result, I ask a lot of questions which slows down the class. Mind you, this isn’t just any old Spanish class either, it’s “Español Para Abogados,” so it’s much like learning two languages in one class. I mean, try speaking legal terms to a native Spanish speaker who doesn’t know the law, and they won’t have a clue what you’re talking about. It’s much easier for me to read Jane Austen in Spanish than it is to read the things we read for class in Spanish. At least I’m getting better at separating my Russian and Spanish now…I think. So anyways, this realization today has me going from being one of the smart ones in class last semester, to being the slowest one in class this semester. It’s all gravy though. I love learning languages. I love asking questions. Therefore, I love this class. And I do!
On the upside (not that there’s really a downside), today I also got invited back to be on the Emerging Leaders Board for AMEC again! I’m SO excited!!
