Working out, eating healthy, and in general taking care of our own well-being should not feel like a chore. It should be fun and stress-free! Still, we’re not machines so we all need some help with accountability and motivation every now and then, or maybe even all the time. This is the main thing I do as a Beachbody coach, in helping others reach their health and fitness goals, and then maintain healthy lifestyles—provide accountability and motivation. One very impactful way to do this, is to surround yourself in one way or another with positive people also living healthy lifestyles; but we also have to be able to hold ourselves accountable and motivate ourselves, on our own, to help us stay on track.
To make sure I stay on track, provide accountability for myself, and stay motivated, I rely on a few pieces of technology to help me out. Here are my top three favorite pieces of technology that help me out on a daily basis.
My Fitness Pal: (www.myfitnesspal.com)
This is a great app and online tool you can use to log your daily calorie intake. It’s also free! I’ve tried a few others, and I think that this one has the most options, without you having to manually add a new item. You can even scan the barcode of an item to get the nutrition facts. Forming groups and adding friends make accountability more efficient. On top of that, as you see the progress you make either in losing weight, or maintaining a healthy calorie consumption, you’re more motivated to keep going.
Fooducate is another great (free) app that makes grocery shopping an ever-fun adventure. I LOVE this app! When I’m at the grocery store, I scan each item with my iPhone, and then it gives me a grade for the food, some tips and notes, and healthier alternatives. Trust me, once you meddle with this thing, you’ll be addicted! It’s way too much fun. Well, either that or I’m just a huge dork!
Next to my iPhone, this is my favorite little gadget. It counts my steps; calories burned; stairs climbed; monitors my sleep; displays cute, motivating, and even funny messages; and it gives me flowers every day J. This little gadget clips to my bra and is completely unnoticeable under my clothes. It comes with a belt clip for the fellers, and a wristband to slip your Fitbit in when sleeping. It syncs automatically when I have my base-station plugged into my laptop, and am anywhere within fifteen feet of it. I can also log my calorie intake, and other activities. It syncs with other apps (My Fitness Pal, will be one of those apps soon). This little device is really a great motivation tool, let alone something to help you track and stay on track. The more steps you take each day, the more you want to take the next day, the next day after that. This little thing is $100, compared to other similar devices, which are typically around $200 and up.
