It was an international feast at our Christmas dinner. We had baklava galore; cheese from Spain, Ireland, France, England, and California; foie gras with black truffle; guac; a Christmas goose; too much to name; and an ELF ICE CREAM CAKE!!! It was incredible--the elf cake. The rest of the spread was mind blowing--like eating at Monell's in Nashville, where even if you have one bite of everything, you feel like you're going to explode out of your pants...but that's why I wear dresses on occasions like these ;)
Christmas is my favorite holiday, and today was just lovely. These days there are no young children in the house, so no one bothers to get up early to open presents. I, however, still get up early to get my workout in and then head to mid-morning mass. I got there extra early this morning to beat the rush, and to get a good seat. I'm glad that some people still come on Christmas, even if it's the only time they come each year. My family doesn't even come with me, but I just say extra prayers for everyone. I have to admit, that I also really enjoy the fact that people actually dress in their Sunday best for Christmas mass. I love it. It's the only time during Christmas, that actually feels like Christmas, because everyone remembers why we're celebrating this special day. I really think some people forget that we're celebrating Jesus' birth, and that it's not just a commercial holiday.
Anyways, mass was lovely, and then I went home to have lunch with my family. After lunch, we opened presents. Between my brother and my parents, I got two really funny gifts. First, my parents gave my brother a very nice, personalized Tumi suitcase...and then I opened up mine, and I got a miniature keychain suitcase. It was hilarious. It's actually a really nice keychain, but nevertheless quite funny. I love it. Then I unwrapped a gift from my brother, which he majorly wrapped in layers, and guess what I found? A Dallas Cowboys hard hat. I laughed. It's brilliant. It's tough being a Cowboys fan, but this will make banging my head while watching games less painful ha. He also told me to buy bicycle water bottle holders to build my own beer hat. That'll help ease the pain, too!
All in all, it was a lovely day. I studied before heading to my aunt and uncle's for the big feast, and I'm now going to return to hitting the books for a few hours.
Hope everyone had a very happy and blessed Christmas. May the love in your heart grow with each day, and your blessings make your laugh lines grow deep and worthy of your smile.
BIG LOVE & HUGS
