It makes me so happy when a girl comes to me and tells me how happy she is with her body. It has nothing to do with being a size 0; but rather, everything to do with having a fit mind—embracing what God gave you, and making the best of this incredible machine that is your body. It’s the main reason why I am a Beachbody coach in the first place—helping people realize their true beauty, embracing it, and just being happy in their own way and on their own terms.
I think we all know that there is an incredible, and highly distorted pressure to look a certain way—and in particular for a girl to look a certain way. Being a girl is hard enough when media is such an integrated part of our lives, whether we want it to be or not. Fighting societal pressure can be tough enough, but it’s even harder when you’re fighting pressure from your own inner circle. From the time I was little, my mother has been on my ass about watching my figure. I know she means well, but it’s hard looking in the mirror and seeing your flaws, then constantly being reminded of them. It’s like hello? I’m not blind! I've got a little waist and a J.Lo bottom--what can I say? God made me with two X chromosomes :). On top of that, for some reason I decided to date an intolerant donkey butt. My psycho ex-boyfriend would always point out every half pound I gained, even before I noticed—and this was when I could fit into a size 0. That sort of one-size fits all mentality is truly heinous, and can really cause a lot of harm in so many ways. And the only person you should ever compare yourself to, is yourself.
Since I joined Beachbody, and especially since I became a coach, it’s been all the more important to me to build a healthy mentality towards my own body image. It’s not easy, but eating clean and getting in my daily exercise helps so much, because not only do I see the changes in my body, but the positive energy and attitude that comes of those two things reinforces my own healthy mentality.
And what really helps is having a positive and supportive group of people who are doing the same thing. Whether we’re trying to lose weight, maintain our health, get toned, or just change our eating habits, we’re all working towards our goals with the same intentions—being happy in our own skin, and making the most of what God gave us! How dreadful it would be to go through life hating your own body. But seriously, thank goodness for my team of coaches, as well as my own personal team! I don’t think my own team realizes, that as much as they think I am helping them out, they are helping me out just as much.
So yes, it totally made my day today when a friend of mine—who I’ve been coaching by introducing her to eating clean and customizing workouts for her—messaged me about how happy she is and the incredible progress she’s made in the last year. She did most of that on her own I might add, I’ve just been helping her kick it into high gear for the final stretch. I’m so incredibly proud of her!
I heard a guy say something that really caught my attention and made me smile not too long ago. He said something along the lines of, “Women are the most beautiful creatures. They are just so beautiful in every way.” That is the kind of mentality I think we should all have—about women and men alike. Besides, if we all looked the same, or were meant to look the same, this world would be intolerably boring and colorless!
Don’t forget to be MAGNIFICENT darlings!
BIG LOVE & BIG HUGS!
