Every other month I ask my parents if it is really necessary for me to walk at graduation this year, in that stupid ugly cap and gown…this is like the one thing I cannot seem to talk my way out of. I mean, c’mon, I’ve done it 3 times already! I walked when I graduated junior high, I walked when I graduated high school, and I walked when I graduated undergrad one year EARLY! Besides trying to dodge that hideous outfit, and painfully long and uninteresting tradition, I don’t have time for that! I’ve got the Bar two months after graduation! Who has time to endure graduation ceremonies when the CA Bar is looming in the near future?
I get it though—it’s a proud moment for them. As my dad put it, “You’re an expensive child to rear, and my reward is getting to watch you walk across that stage in that stupid ugly cap and gown.” Thanks pa. I guess it makes it feel official—like official bragging rights to their colleagues and distant relatives ha.
On the bright side, my graduating law school class is much smaller than any other of my past graduating classes. And, I suppose it’s the least I can do for them before I shut out the world for 2 months until I’m done with the Bar.
BIG LOVE & HUGS
