First, I apologize for being delinquent on my usual red-carpet wrap up, but here we go…!
Even though the Grammys is like the Oscars of music, the great thing about music award shows is that you can get fun and funky with your red carpet look. So…
Katy Perry looked beautiful in Valentino with her haired pulled back tightly in a massive bun, but she was still Katy Perry in the sense that she was a little creative with her ensemble—I love the music sheet notes printed on her dress. I actually thought she might take the stage and start singing opera.
Best baby bump: Ciara. Her gold Emilio Pucci wasn’t the only thing glowing—she looked stunning. I always give props to women who are able to work fitted dresses around their baby bump and rock it, because frankly, sometimes the loose flowy dresses just end up making them look a bit like a jazzed up potato sack. Sometimes.
Taylor strayed from her bright red lips tonight, and went for a more toned down make up look with a lighter shade of pink and I think lavender eye shadow. Her hair looked a bit like she just woke up and threw it up in a ponytail, but it added a playful, youthful contrast to her dazzling dress. Go Gucci. I really love the chain mail. I LOVE it. I’m not sure how comfortable it was, but it looked fabulous.
I don’t know what Paris Hilton was doing at the Grammys, and I’m a little afraid to actually let these words come out of my mouth (or rather my fingertips), but I kind of liked her dress…from the front. It’s Haus of Milani, and before I saw the entire back, I was worried she was bearing her bottom, in which case I would have said no-no. I don’t care if we’re at the VMAs or whatever other show—bearing your bottom is never okay. And I still can’t tell if it’s sheer or if it’s just nude made to tease us, but in either case, it looks like she’s got extra fabric hanging from her tailbone like a fallen cloth diaper, covering up her derrière. I mean, she stayed true to form in this definitely eye-catching piece, but please Paris, why are you even there in the first place?
Robin Thick and Paula Patton—they’re just one of those couples you look forward to seeing on the red carpet these days. I’m personally not a huge fan of animal prints, but I loved the fierceness of her black and white zebra print dress, and the way the lion heads came up out of the collar. It was awesome.
Keith Urban sporting a shorter do, but…dude, you look like you just woke up in the outback and forgot you had to show up at the red carpet—a little sloppy. At least you got a haircut?
Loved Macklemore’s turquoise velvet suit. It fit him well! And Ryan Lewis’s hounds tooth suit also gets bonus points for creativity. They both kept it sharp and fun. Hooray. I love how each year the men are getting better and more creative with their outfits.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Miranda Lambert look more beautiful than in this Pamela Rolland. The red dress was a hot choice thanks to its plunging neckline, and her hair was very sleek, Hollywood glam. Go M!
I love Kacey Musgraves—I mean, she’s one of the reasons I still have faith in today’s country music—but I have mixed feelings about this Armani Prive dress. From certain angles, the short tiers of floofiness just did not work. It looked unfinished, and made me think of the ugly step-sisters trying to be glam, but kind of failing miserably. From other angles, it looked quite lovely, so I really don’t know.
Oh Sara Bareilles, oh no no no. You are up for a nom and you think you might potentially accept an award dressed like old dying hen? Oh no girl, no. I’m sorry, this Blumarine was simply a no-no.
I’ve seen a similar look on Ariana Grande—at the VMAs. Last time she did something like this, she looked like a little girl going on an afternoon picnic in the country, which would have been cute if that’s what she was doing, but she wasn’t. This time, she looked like she was going to prom circa 1952. Adorable girl, but sorry! No bueno.
Hunter Hayes—another person I am proud to have representing country music. He was looking sleek, cool without the tie and top button unbuttoned, and he switched out his sneakers for grown men shoes. Darling!
Ed (Sheeran) dear, your adorableness makes me want to say, it’s okay that your suit jacket doesn’t fit, but…no. You look like you just rolled out of an Irish pub after bathing in it for a few days—very adorably rolled out, but still.
Okay, okay. Madonna and her son looked adorable in matching Ralph Lauren suits and hats. I feel like she was channeling Diane Keaton a bit with this androgynous look.
Dude, Pharrell’s hat. I thought he was one of those Canadian soldiers. And he was wearing a red jacket! Ha!
This is the first time I’ve seen Rita Ora and Calvin Harris together on the red carpet. I love them both. I think I started loving Rita because she’s dating Calvin though. They’re a darling pair, and as lovely as she looks, I feel like the whole look was a bit matronly on her—hair and dress combined.
Was Kaskade not wearing socks? Because, loafers with no socks is only okay when you’re going to the yacht club.
Okay, that’s all I’ve got this time around. What were your favorite and not so favorite looks??? Do tell :D
BIG LOVE & HUGS
