DamB ACM, Luke and Blake started out with jokes I didn’t know you could get away with on TV! But alright...
You know what I love about George Strait? He just has this eternal, effortless charm about him—he needn’t do much at all and hearts just immediately start melting when he starts singing. Or at least mine does!
Okay, so if you don’t know already, I LOVE Gary Allan. He’s not just a fellow California kid, but he’s an L.A. kid, too! See y’all? California country does exist! Even outside Bakersfield! So yes, I was so thrilled to see him at the ACMs. One problem—someone didn’t check his hair before he went on stage to present, and there was one little tiny curl out of place. Yes, totally insignificant, but totally bothered me.
Holy smokes, I can’t remember the last time I saw Eric Church without his hat and sunglasses on. Love “Loves Me Like Jesus.” I immediately fell in love with it when his album first came out.. And THANK THE LORD for his Album of the Year win, because that was SOOOO deserving! Hallelujah.
I love the Florida Georgia Line boys—these guys just look like such a naughty pair. You can see it on their faces when they’re performing. It’s darling. I’m so pleased to hear “Cruise” on the Hits station. That says a lot. There was no doubt in my mind they would win New Artist of the Year. Congratulations boys.
Umm I love that Hillary Scott performed big belly and all. What a rockstar. Her baby is going to be gorgeous.
The Band Perry had the best performance of the night, hands down. It was a major power kick. And Kimberly’s stage presence has improved ten fold. I think they seriously got it right this time. Not that they were ever wrong, but I always felt like they were not quite there with where they appeared to be wanting their live performances to go. This was well executed. Bravo. I smell a Group of the Year Award for them next year. Yes. Yes I do.
O MY GOODNESS. That giant Joe Diffie image during Jason Aldean’s performance—TOO FUNNY. TOO FUNNY! Seriously. TOO FUNNY. Ridiculous. I can’ get over it. Not in a good way though.
YAY Little Big Town!!! This has definitely been a huge year for them, and I’m so glad. These folks have the most amazing harmonies. It’s about time they had a year like this. Their performance of “Your Side Of The Bed” was so hauntingly beautiful. The giant bed confused me at first, but I liked the dancers. Flying dancers are always cool... Side note—Jimi and Karen are such a pretty pair. Their son is no doubt going to be a lady magnet.
“Mama’s Broken Heart” is another song I’m so thrilled finally became a single. I know there was hesitation with this one, and worry about it not being appropriate for country radio listeners. And Miranda always has so much energy on stage—like before she comes on she opens ten cans of whoop ass first. Sometimes I think she's harboring a lot of rage or something, and then just releases it all on stage. Bravo to Kacey Musgraves, Shane McAnally, and Brandy Clark on this number.
Lately, I’ve been missing the BBQ stained, red rag top Tim McGraw, but then I heard “Highway Don’t Care” on the radio, and I have to say I like this song. And you have to admit, it’s pretty cool that Taylor started off with a song named after him, and is now collaborating with him. I really loved the dress she performed in, too. It was gorgeous. And seriously, what gets better than Keith Urban playing the guitar. The image of the threw of them at the end of their performance, with the camera aiming up at them, and then towering like immaculate statues was a nice shot.
That performance followed by a Brad Paisley and John Mayer duo was pretty interesting. I get the pairing, because you're putting two awesome guitarists together, but I'm not sure they meshed that well together. And the sound wasn't great. It was a nice summer romance song, though. Oh and did something happen towards the end of the song, or was there just a glitch in my TV? I’m not sure but something really weird happened, like I was hearing two different songs all of a sudden.
Luke Bryan in a laser beam cage…bahaha.
I wish Vince Gill was singing “Don’t Rush” with Kelly Clarkson this time around, too, but it’s still such a lovely song. You can tell she’s so happy. She looked like a fresh spring daisy in that beautiful aquamarine dress, blonde hair, and light make-up. She was just so lovely all-around.
Jewel is a jewel in music. And I think I’m the only person who thought she was always considered a country artist. I thought “Intuition” was like a pop sampling or something. Her performance in support of ConAgra was beautiful.
Reba’s so sexy. The woman doesn’t age.
And the Dick Clark tribute was lovely. I mean, you’ve got two incredible men, George Strait and Garth Brooks, honoring a most incredible man. Television, and specifically music television, would not be what it is today without him all those years.
Damb. For such a tough cookie, Miranda sure does cry a lot. Girl needs to pull herself together! Just kidding. I love her.
You will never stop hearing me rave about Hunter Hayes—the boy is just so dang talented. God bless him! They real need to break him in Europe and Asia, especially Japan. This boy could totally command international stardom. Hello??? He just collaborated with Stevie Wonder!!! Although, he’s probably used to superstar collaborations, since he’s been singing with Hank Jr. since he was like what? 3 or 4?
Shania Twain is another one hat doesn’t age either. She is still one hot mama. Normally, I’d say that woman over 35 or 40 shouldn’t wear over the knee boots, but Queen Shania can do whatever the heck she wants. If I was Luke Bryan, I would’ve Adrien Brodied her. I was totally expecting him to.
And Stevie Wonder closing out the show…well, this is country music y’all!
BIG LOVE & HUGS
