I’ve never written a bad review of a restaurant, but I had such an unexpectedly unpleasant experience the other evening, that I thought I'd just warn you. So, a couple months ago, my friend and I decided that we'd start doing Hump Day Drink Days every Wednesday. Well, we've only done it twice. But it's still a good plan. This Wednesday, I decided, I never go to the Gulch to dine, so I wanted to try something there. We decided on Cantina Laredo. It’s a lovely restaurant, overall. However, I happened to order all the wrong things.
First, I ordered the ceviche, because ceviche is one of those items, that if on a menu, I must order it. I’ve never had bad ceviche, so I was shocked when I struggled to consume my plate of ceviche. At first it was okay. And then I ate a piece of fish that tasted like an old dungeon in an old cathedral. Blehh. And then there were more pieces that tasted like that, so I kept shoving chips and salsa in my mouth, because that was quite fantastic. I still can’t figure out what caused that awful taste, but I realized that they tried too hard to fancy it up. There were olives and capers, and peppers, and as much as I love all those things, it was just too much.
On the other hand, my friend’s tacos looked fabulous. Everything else looked fabulous. Actually, when I was trying to decide what to order I was seriously debating between enchiladas and the ceviche. Obviously, I chose wrong.
As for the drinks, my Jack was good. Duh. And the margaritas my friend ordered were quite lovely. After my Jack, I decided to be a little less boring, and go for something else. So, I ordered a mojito. What came out was the ginormousest glass of mojito I have ever had. There is a reason why mojitos usually come in smaller glasses. The problem with this mojito, was that it was bland. The amount of mint and lime was not proportionate to the amount of liquids in the glass.
So yeah, don’t order the ceviche or the mojito if you decide to dine here. Otherwise, it’s a lovely place to dine. And like I said, the chips and salsa were fabulous. They give you two salsas. The red one is mildly spicy, and the darker one has a very interesting, smoky flavor. It was great.
BIG LOVE & HUGS
