Last weekend, when I was up in L.A., I saw signs for Bowers Museum of Cultural Arts’ Fabergé exhibit. I’ve never even heard of Bowers, but it didn’t matter—I was instantly intrigued, and needed to immediately find out where exactly this exhibit was, so that I could go see sparkly jewels glisten in the reflection of my eyes. I don’t know what kind of nine year old has a fascination with Fabergé eggs, but that was me. I remember when I was about nine years old, The Franklin Mint had a necklace with a Fabergé egg, and I wanted it so badly I'd just endlessly stare at the picture in the catalogue and dream of owning a Fabergé egg. It could still happen ;).
As soon as I could, I looked it up online and found out that Bowers Museum is actually in Orange County—Santa Ana, to be specific. The exhibit opened on June 23, 2012, and closes on January 6, 2013. I’m so excited!!! I can’t wait to go see it!
It looks like they also have lots of other cool things going on there, so I highly recommend a visit to those of you in or visiting the L.A./O.C. area. Currently, they have various exhibits dedicated to California history, Ancient Chinese Art, and more. Upcoming exhibits include a collection of Madeleine Albright’s pins—all the pins she wore while she was the first female Secretary of State. I didn’t realize brooches were here diplomatic signature, so I think it could be quite interesting. Their programs range from workshops and art classes, to lectures, film screenings, performances, special weekend festivities, and even a “kidseum.” The nerd in me is muy excited!
