Last night we were fortunate enough to try French restaurant Comme Ca in West Hollywood, and the name says it all! First, waiter Johnny was super nice and extremely helpful with drinks. We couldn’t decide so we simply told him what we liked: vodka (me), and gin (my friend), and he brought us back two amazing cocktails that weren’t on the menu. So tip #1 if you end up at Comme Ca: just tell your hot waiter the things you like to drink, and you won’t be sorry. After my cucumber, vodka, I-don’t-know-what-else-but-who-cares-because-it-was-delish I asked him for something different…not because the cucumber was bad, but I just wanted to make sure the cocktail creations weren’t just a fluke – that they could pull this off every time. Johnny came back with raspberry, vodka, cayenne infused vodka, and a few other things I can’t remember – amazing!
We had the escargot, shrimp cocktail, French onion soup, and apple tart for dessert. The escargot is mixed in with some sort of fantastic garlic pesto sauce and bread crumbs. I wasn’t too sure about mixing it up with the bread, but it worked. The French onion soup was magnificent. First, there’s no hunk of bread in the soup, just a giant slab of cheese (which if you know me, my motto is, you can never have too much cheese). Obviously, melted cheese is hard to break/cut into bit sized chunks, let alone when it is bobbing about in a large bowl of soup, which leads to you just wishing you shove the whole thing in your mouth. But because we were in a very trendy public place, it was good that I had a partner in crime. Tip #2: bring someone with you to help you pull the cheese that is wading in the soup apart.
So, everything on the menu looks amazing, and accomplices willing, I will try one of each eventually. Since we couldn’t decide, again we turned to waiter Johnny for help. His #1 was the apple tart, so we went for it. Let me just say that Johnny did not let us down. Apple tart a la mode – fantastic. Happy Hour runs until 7PM, and it really is a cute little spot to grab a drink and some apps after work if you’re in the area. Note to any of you traveling to Sin City any time soon, there is also a Comme Ca in Vegas.
