When my husband and I were in Barcelona, we got really lucky and found a great Airbnb right in the Gothic Centre. Barcelona was starting to crack down on Airbnbs so I'm not sure if you can get as lucky as we were anymore, but that doesn't mean you can experience the best part of our stay--the best churros con chocolate in town.
We stayed on a small historic street, Carrer de Petritxol, where there are quaint boutiques, galleries, a tapas bar, and THREE places you can get churros. The street is more like an alley, but not in a creepy way--it's an alley of wonder and history. On our very last day in town, I went to one last place for churros before we headed to the airport. Just a few doors down from us and across the way was a chocolate shop called Petritxol Xocoa, and Oh.Em.Gee, it was as if I intended to save the best for last. The churros were perfection, but what was most impressive was the chocolate. In case you've never experienced churros con chocolate, the chocolate is a hot chocolate for dipping. In most places, the chocolate was very thin and liquidy, which is nice when you want to drink the remaining chocolate after you're done with your churros. However, the chocolate at Petritxol Xocoa was nice and thick, without being too thick that you can't drink it. Oh, I drank every last drop. Nor is it too rich, which I appreciate. I love chocolate, but I can't handle too much of it when it's very rich. This chocolate was simply perfection. It was heaven. You can also order other things with your chocolate, but I'm personally a churros fiend. So, next time you're in Barcelona and you're visiting the Gothic Centre, be sure to make your way here. You will thank me! I wish I had gone in earlier, because there were a bunch of other treats I would have liked to try, too. If you do make your way here, let me know what you think and anything else you might have enjoyed. I will certainly have to make my way back there one day! BIG LOVE & HUGS Love, Justine
