Who doesn't love basking in the sweetness of sunshine and ocean air with a spread of drool-worthy food laid out in front of you?  It's a joy that's hard to beat.  Over the weekend, another Dinner Club adventure led us  to one of the great blessings of living by the beach in Southern California--a blessing that is abundant, but never gets old.

Saturday afternoon (yes, another Dinner Club lunch), we diddly-daddled slightly north of our local neighbourhood to Playa del Rey and found ourselves on the cozy patio of Playa Provisions.  The owner/head chef of Playa Provisions also owns The Tripel (down the street from Playa Provisions) and Hudson House (Redondo Beach).  I have yet to try The Tripel, but all my hometown peeps reading this know how awesome Hudson House is.  Playa Provision's menu is totally different from Hudson House's and The Tripel's, but it's equally fabulous.  Like I said, I've never been to the Tripel, but on the menu I saw cassoulet and squid ink tagliolini--two of my favorite dishes EVER and rare to find around here, especially under the same roof--so, I just know the food there must be 5 star drool-worthy.

Anyways, back to Playa Provisions.  First of all, the outdoor patio is ADORABLE.  It would be a great venue for a small party.  There are lights hung across the open ceiling, and heat lamps ready for a good night time event.  The patio style wood tables are clean and cozy and you feel like you're just hanging out in your backyard.  There's also indoor seating, which is a good place to catch a game--but if it's nice out, I highly recommend enjoying the sunshine.

We started with the Biscuit Bites.  Bite size and delicious, they came with butter and a spoonful of salted dulce de leche…yeah.  I had the Coconut Chia Seed Pudding with Fruit which was light and wonderful--a perfect start to the day.  It was lunchtime, but oddly enough, that was my first meal of the day so I decided to go with that.  Plus, I wanted to save room for their ice cream! Someone ordered Cajun Shrimp and Crab Eggs Benedict, which I stole a bite of--it was just beautiful.  I don't know how to describe it.  In sight and in taste it was just beautiful.  The others each ordered different sandwiches, that also looked like Sunday perfection.

Then, it was time for ice cream!  In case I haven't mentioned, we have a tradition of having ice cream after our meals.  If we stay local to where we live, then we go to Handel's.  However, if we venture off, we might have ice cream elsewhere.  In this case, their ice cream was supposed to be really good.  "Really good" is a major understatement.  The strawberry ice cream was so fresh, you'd think that ice cream could grow on bushes.  And the cheesecake ice cream--well, I've never had cheesecake ice cream that tasted so much like an actual cheesecake.  It was divine.

My mouth is watering just writing about all of this.  I cannot wait to go back.  Street parking is a bit tight, but there's valet.  It's places like Playa Provisions that well summarizes how we're spoiled here in SoCal.  The food isn't only good, it's made well, and all the while the sound and aroma of the ocean surrounds you.  Yeah, it doesn't get much better when you get to enjoy all of that with the ones you love.

BIG LOVE & HUGS

Love,

Justine
