Your RV Lifestyle has 50 travel tips for you, ranging from planning your trip, to packing, different tips for different types of travel (plane, roadtrips, etc.), staying safe, and many more tips. One thing that particularly stood out to me was tip #45 on the list--Volunteer While Traveling - With Sustainable, Ethical Organizations.
Travel is such an important part of my life and my identity. It has been the most influential educator and learning about and engaging in others' culture, customs, and history is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves. Something I haven't done before, but have thought about is "purposeful" travel.
I have friends who have volunteered in Africa, and have seen the impact of their trips--on them and the lives they touched. However, you don't have to travel to third world countries just do some good wherever it is you'd like to go. There are a variety of sites that help set up volunteer programs and cultural exchanges. Your RV Lifestyle suggests that it is not necessary to shell out big bucks to participate in volunteer/purposeful travel. Many help out around a household, or farm, in exchange for a free stay and food. Sure, we all want our leisurely vacations, but purposeful travel is something worth considering as we think about how we can really learn about and understand our neighbors in other parts of the world. Think about it! Try it out! Let us know about your experiences volunteering in other countries! BIG LOVE & HUGS Love, Justine
