Twinings is a must visit for any visitor (or anyone for that matter...in my humble opinion) in London Town, and I made a new discovery on my latest visit. At Twinings you can take a masterclass and learn all about the history of tea while tasting fine and varied teas. You can book a private class for a minimum of two people, or a regular class for a minimum of six people, and you can also book a bespoke blending experience for a maximum of six people. So for Londoners, I recommend this as a fun company outing or outing with friends and family. No matter, definitely call ahead or email to reserve your spot! You can check out the details here.
I was obviously very excited for this experience though I wasn't quite sure what to expect, and it was truly such a wonderful experience. My husband, who came along as a good sport and is more of a coffee drinker, also had such a good time he even took pictures, which he NEVER does.
First of all, our masterclass instructor, Hans, was a delightful gentleman who thoroughly led us through our tea tasting and history lesson with utmost detail and joy. He was very engaging and charismatic which made it all the more fun. The teas were all very good and we learned to slurp our tea to taste the full body of the teas. My favorite ended up being the Chakra Silver Tips, a white tea from Indonesia. It's so light yet striking, I imagine it like drinking an angel's kiss. Being a coffee drinker and Nutella fiend, Chris loved the Nutty Chocolate Flavour Assam Tea. It smells divine and really does taste like coffee. So actually, not being a coffee drinker myself, I don't love drinking it, but I could smell it all day. We also tried a yellow tea, green tea, Oolong, black tea, and puer tea. One tea I did not try in the store but pruchased and am absolutely in love with is an Apple and Elderflower Green Tea. It is the smell and taste of spring and joy. It was a fun experience for us to share as a couple. We drank lots and learned lots. I even learned that the Earl Grey we get in the States is not the same blend as the original as it's slightly "weaker" than the original. So of course I had to buy a large tin of the original Early Grey to bring home! I highly recommend taking a masterclass if you get a chance, because it's a unique interactive way to discover and enjoy London's history and culture. The nerd in me is so giddy just thinking about it! I'm definitely going to have to return for a bespoke class so that I can create my own blend one day!
BIG LOVE & HUGS
Love, Justine
